Are You Prepared for This Coming Winter?

Are You Prepared for This Coming WinterAlthough Thanksgiving is right around the corner, it won’t be long before winter is here. Winter officially arrives on December 21st, but weather forecasters around the region are already starting to share their weather predictions for the upcoming season.

Forecasters are predicting a relatively average winter season in the Northeast. But that will equate to colder temperatures and more snowfall than what we experienced last year in the tri-state region, since last year was such a mild and dry winter. Temperatures are expected to run about 3 – 5 degrees colder than last winter. Forecasters are also predicting frequent winter storms, which can lead to above average snowfall. One thing that may limit the amount of accumulation, however, is that storms may changeover from snow to sleet, freezing rain and rain.

So, what can you do to prepare for the weather that will soon arrive whether you’re ready for it or not?

If you’re a snow removal contractor, landscaper, property owner or you work for a commercial management company, you’ll certainly want to make sure you know where you can get enough rock salt if and when you need it. Companies like ATAK Trucking can provide you with the salt you’ll need to melt snow and ice, as well as wholesale pricing and delivery if you need more than 20 tons at a time.

You’ll also want to make sure you’re prepared for snow removal on your property. For commercial property owners or managers, that means securing a snow removal service that will put you on the schedule in a timely manner if you don’t have the equipment or the manpower to get the snow removed with your own staff. If you’re a homeowner, you’ll want to make sure that you have some shovels or a working snowblower, as well as gas to go in it so it’s ready to go when you need it.

Homeowners may also need to keep some ice melt on hand in case driveways and walkways get slippery. Although you won’t need a bulk delivery of rock salt to get you through the winter months, it’s a good idea to pick up a bucket or bag of ice melt at the home improvement store the next time you’re there. In fact, if you need shovels or any other type of snow removal equipment, getting it sooner rather than later is a good idea. After all, we’ve all seen the empty store shelves right before an upcoming storm.

Although our thoughts may still be on turkey and sharing special times with family and friends, it’s never too early to start planning for how you’ll tackle the winter weather that’s sure to arrive faster than you would like it to. By planning now, you’ll be ready for whatever Mother Nature sends our way.

From all of us at ATAK Trucking, we wish you a very happy Thanksgiving!
